GAINESVILLE - Parents of gifted children at Enota Elementary School lined up to tell Gainesville School Board members Monday night that their students are underserved and they are not getting the straight story about why.
The parents complained that there is only one gifted teacher at Enota when there are supposed to be two; they did not accept Chairman David Syfan's explanation that funding shortages were behind the problem. Board members and Superintendent Dr. Merrianne Dyer agreed to meet with them in a called meeting Tuesday evening.
RESTORING A FURLOUGH DAY
Board members voted to restore one of the furlough days put into the budget for cost containment on a recommendation from Dr. Dyer.
"At this time we're going to restore the March 11th day and we're very hopeful that in January we can restore the May 25th day," Dr. Dyer said.
Dr. Dyer added with the vote teachers gain another full day of pay and for students gain a full day of instruction.
