GAINESVILLE - Over 3,000 visitors are expected this weekend at the 7th Annual Fall Garden Expo hosted by Hall County Master Gardeners at the Chicopee Woods Ag Center which began Friday morning.
If it has to do with gardening, nearly 50 vendors are waiting to show, tell and sell according to Tamara Dellinger, this year's Fall Expo Chairman.
"There are a lot of people," Dellinger said. "The vendors have had good sales already this morning."
Dellinger, chairing the Fall Expo for the first time, said visitors would find everything from antique English watering cans to decorated hats as well as thousands of plants and garden implements. There are even carnivorous plants.
Composting is also featured and children got an education by putting together 'edible' compost.
"We are having great time teaching the kids what to put in compost," said Cindy Reed, Executive Director of Keep Hall Beautiful. "We use corn flakes to represent leaves and pretzels to represent twigs and gummy worms to represent earth worms;they love that."
Pam Turk said her five year old twin granddaughters Zoe and Mia Simmons age five, and her other granddaughter Ava already had an appreciation for why compost is so important.
"They're lots of help and they're already learning the names of plants and they probably will pass that on to the next generation," she said.
Frank Bailey with Mountain View Gardens in Dahlonega said his best sales come from going where the customers are and he said he finds them at the Expo.
"It gives the customers a choice of so many different plant vendors," Bailey said.
Bailey said he likes to focus on deer proof plants because so many customers live in mountainous deer habitat. The Ag Center is located off I-985 North at Exit 20; it opens Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m.
