Hall Democrats get ready for state meeting

GAINESVILLE - Hall County Democrats met Saturday in Gainesville to prepare for their upcoming state committee meeting next week in Warner Robbins to elect a new state chairman.

The Democrats worked on their organization, making sure all vacancies are filled on the committee and electing new officers at their morning session held at Panera Restaurant on Dawsonville Highway.

County Chairman Jim Taflinger said the party needs to get the message out that they support middle-class Americans.

"We have to work on that messaging," Taflinger said."We have to let people know we are there for them, we're not there against them."

Taflinger said with major items like health care legislation it is time to get past conservative and liberal labels and deal with solutions that resolve issues.

"I don't like labels," Taflinger said. "At the end of the day we're all looking for the same solutions, it's just different views of how we want to get there. I think when people start throwing labels out, liberal, conservative, socialist, fascist, whatever, they want to call it, it's avoiding talking about the issues."

Party members also signed a get well card for Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head January 8th by a gunman who opened fire and killed six people outside a grocery store during a meeting with voters in Tucson.
