Library Board breaks even after big money loss

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Hall County's library board was one member short of having a quorum Tuesday night but got good news from its auditor anyway.

Auditor Elizabeth Grimes told board members that despite a $90,000 loss this year the system broke even. Chairman Killian Edwards said that was thanks to doing more financially with less including closing libraries on Saturday like the Blackshear Place branch.

"If there's more money to be had next year we'll definitely revisit that," she said.

Board members heard from a South Hall patron who complained about Blackshear Place closed on Saturday.

A BANK CHANGE

The library system may be changing banks; system director Adrian Mixson recommended switching from Bank of America to Wells Fargo to save money and for another reason.

"Wells Fargo actually gives back to the community," Mixson said. "It's part of their corporate banking."

Mixson added Wells Fargo contributed $100,000 to Hall non-profit agencies last year and the library system would save around $16,000 to $22,000 a year by switching to Wells Fargo.

The Board is expected to act on Mixson's recommendation at an upcoming executive board meeting since it lacked a quorum to cast votes.
