Flamingos returning to Gainesville

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - To raise awareness and funds, the Guest House has its fourth annual Flamingo Flocking set to begin Monday and continue through April 1.

During that time, flocks of pink flamingos, which are made by Guest House clients, will congregate on lawns throughout Hall County, helping raise funds for The Guest House and awareness about the private, non-profit adult day health care center that was started in 1985. The Guest House provides elderly clients with mentally stimulating activities and medical monitoring in a safe environment, while giving family members a break from their care giving duties.

"The Flamingo Flocks are attention-grabbers and themselves are a product of one our our programs. All of our flamingos were made by the clients and volunteers at the Guest House Workshop," Guest House Executive Director Rachel Spain said. "The Flamingo Flocking has been a way for the Guest House to let people know what services we offer and raise funds, too."

During the two-week stretch, the flocks of flamingos rotate among residences and businesses in the area. Each flock comes with a Guest House sign, literature about the fundraiser and services the Guest House provides, as well as a donation envelope and a way to "flock" someone else.

"If you do not wish to make a contribution and just want the flock off your lawn, you can call us and we will remove them," Spain said. "The flocks will only stay for a few days before moving on to its next perch."
