Police say drowning investigation may take weeks

By B.J. Williams
WINDER - It may be weeks before authorites are able to release more information on the drowning of a 4-year-old Winder girl.

Officer Chris Cooper with the Winder Police Department said officers were called to a home on McElroy Street Wednesday night.

"The nature of the call was a child that had drowned in a bathtub. I can say that it was a 4-year-old female," said Cooper. He did not identify the girl.

Cooper said an autopsy was performed on the child, but other tests are being conducted. Until those results are available, said Cooper, the investigation is on hold.

The GBI is assisting with the investigation, according to Cooper.
