GAINESVILLE - A 70-year-old driver was struck in the face after he rear-ended another vehicle on Athens Street Friday afternoon.
Gainesville Police Officer Joe Britte said Floyd Earls was at fault in the accident which occurred at 989 Athens Street. However, the driver of the car that Earls hit wound up going to jail.
Britte said Jake Gwin, 18, of Gainesville got out of his vehicle and hit Earls in the face.
"Mr. Earls was not taken to the hospital," said Britte. "Basically, his glasses were broken and that was about it."
Gwin has been charged with simple battery, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
Britte described the incident as a case of road rage.
