Look on line early next year for Gainesville city surplus

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council has declared a five page list of property surplus and if you submit the best bid online, you could get a deal on anything from a computer to a used police car.

Assistant City Manager Angela Sheppard that list goes on line early next year.

"We do it through GovDeals which is on line and it really helps the City of Gainesville get the best price for our surplus property," Sheppard said.

City Council passed its surplus property resolution at its meeting last Tuesday.

GovDeals.com, an online auction company, was recommended by the Georgia Municipal Association. Sheppard adds the city began successfully using GovDeals about two years ago.

"Our administrative services uploads the list onto GovDeals and they have information about what the surplus property is," Sheppard added.

According to Sheppard the surplus list should be posted in late January or early February and it not only includes motor vehicles, but several seized bicycles from the police department, which has the biggest surplus list. The second biggest comes from Public Utilities.
