FLOWERY BRANCH - Veteran City Council member Mary Jones took her oath of office Thursday night to return to Council, begin a new term and start the Flowery Branch City Council meeting with a voting quorum. Jones left office two years ago after serving four years and now hopes to help move the city forward.
"I think maybe as the economy begins to grow there are some things we can do as a city to attract people to come in here," Jones said.
Jones was defeated for election by incumbent Chris Fetterman last year, then Fetterman quit because of an out of town job transfer. That left Jones as the sole qualifier for the open seat.

City Council got good audit news from CPA Wayne Tuck with Walker and Associates of Gainesville. Tuck reported that revenues are up and liabilities are down.
"The cash position went up significantly, over $500,000 from the prior year and total assets were up over $200,000," Tuck said.
Tuck added that the city's fund balance is also up; he said the city ran the water and sewer department like a business and its fund was showing a profit.
