Day Care costs go up for Hall System employees

By Jerry Gunn Reporter
GAINESVILLE - The cost for in school day care at the Lanier Career Academy went up Monday night when Hall County School Board members approved a $20 dollar a week hike for pre-school children.

It went from $124 a week to $144 a week per child. It starts with the new school year and it is still lower by comparison according to Assistant Superintendent Eloise Barron.

"That's still below $190, $175, $155 and $190, those are the other quotes for the infant class," she said.

The program serves infant to three year old children of system employees. Dr. Barron said increasing costs caused the fee hike; the registration fee remains the same.

TUITION STUDENTS IN HALL?

It is time to at least begin thinking about opening up the Hall School System to out of county tuition students on a larger scale. That was the opinion of School Superintendent Will Schofield and school board members.

"We're just setting ourselves up to have some flexibility for the potential of having out of district students take advantage of either empty seats in our schools or our cyber academies we're developing," Schofield said.

Schofield said at all levels, elementary to high school, Hall County
may be able to fill empty seats so out of district students could learn cyber technology but Hall students would have priority.

"We've got a lot of neighbors that already offer opportunities for students to attend out of district," Schofield added. "If we have empty seats and these are challenging economic times, and when we develop the cyber opportunities, it just make sense."
