Habitual Gwinnett criminal charged with Tuesday night rape

LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett County man who made headlines two years ago when he tried to break into homes in the Buford area wearing only a t-shirt is now in trouble for a sexual assault this week.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that Marcus Anthony Terrell, 40, of Lawrenceville has been charged with rape and a number of other offenses after an attack on a 55-year-old woman who lived in his neighborhood. Gwinnett police told the newspaper that the woman was hospitalized after the break-in around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.

In addition to rape charges, Terrell has been charged with a number of other offenses including burglary, aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual battery.

Terrell has been arrested more than a dozen times by Gwinnett police, including in May 2010, according to published reports. The registered sex offender was cornered by a homeowner off Hamilton Mill Road when he was spotted trying to enter homes in the area at that time.
