Student body president will not be reinstated

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - A Georgia teenager who says he was ousted as student body president after he proposed changes to make prom more inclusive to gay students has lost another court battle.

A federal judge this week rejected Alpharetta High School student Reuben Lack's bid to be reinstated as student body president. U.S. District Judge Richard Story sided with the school and told Lack that it's time for him to close this chapter in his life and move on.

Lack maintained in a federal lawsuit that his First Amendment rights to free speech were violated by his removal from office.

Suzann Jiles, a lawyer for Fulton County Schools, has said Lack was removed because he performed below expectations as student body leader at the school north of Atlanta.
