Two Barrow teens face long list of charges following search

WINDER - Two Barrow County juveniles are in custody following a search of more than four hours in the Creekwood Road area Wednesday morning.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said the incident actually started Tuesday morning when a 16-year-old white male threatened his grandmother with bodily harm.

The sheriff said the teen and a 13-year-old friend, also male, ran away from home.

"The 16-year-old juvenile broke into a family member's vehicle and obtained four different firearms and ammunition," said Smith.

Smith said everything came to a head when authorities were told the pair were hiding in some woods on Creekwood Road between Bankhead Highway and Pierce Road. He said deputies set up a perimeter and started to search for the boys.

"The 13-year-old came out of the woods first," said Smith. "And then the 16-year-old, we did track him down and got him detained without incident."

Smith said the weapons were found nearby.

Smith said the older teen faces a number of charges.

"At this point, the 16-year-old juvenile has been charged with aggravated assault/family violence, terroristic threats/family violence, entering auto, theft by taking, burglary, criminal trespass, runaway juvenile and unruly juvenile," said the sheriff.

He said the 13-year-old faces the same charges with the exception of the family violence charges, since he was not believed to be present when the grandmother was threatened.

Smith said both teens will be turned over to juvenile authorities as the investigation continues.
