Hall Co. completes recycling changes

GAINESVILLE - Changes have been completed at compactor sites county-wide as Hall County Public Works continues to try to make recycling easier. Now residents only have to divide their recyclables into three categories: paper/cardboard, metal/plastic and glass.

The changes began in November 2011 when all compactor sites began accepting mixed paper and mixed cardboard. Also at that time, the county began a pilot study at Flowery Branch and Sardis compactor sites to see how residents would respond to combining more recyclable materials. Residents had a very positive reaction to the increased convenience, according to county officials, and the Board of Commissioners decided to expand the program county-wide.

"We hope this added convenience will encourage more Hall County residents to use our compactor sites for recycling," said Rick Foote, Natural Resources Coordinator.

The county's 12 compactor sites are open to all unincorporated Hall County property owners who pay the annual solid waste assessment fee on their tax bill.

Aluminum beverage cans and foils
Steel or tin food cans and spray cans
Plastics #1-7 (remove lid and empty container)


Glass (green bin, small section)

Glass food and beverage bottles and jars (all colors)

NOT ACCEPTED:

Plastic bags
Polystyrene foam
Plastic children's toys
Lawn chairs
Pool liners or shower curtains
Medical waste
