LAWRENCEVILLE - A former Gwinnett County commissioner has said he's close to resolving credit problems, and he wants a bankrputcy case against him dismissed.
Kevin Kenerly resigned from the commission nearly two years ago in the midst of financial troubles.
He was charged by a Gwinnett County grand jury with criminal bribery in connection with a commission land deal with a private developer. Kenerly has claimed innocence.
According to reports in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Kenerly filed for bankruptcy last December, claiming he had about $3.5 million in debt, including monies owed on homes in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and in Braselton.
The newspaper also reports that county records show Kenerly owes nearly $21,000 in late property taxes, penalties and interest on his Braselton home and an adjoining lot.
Kenerly says he's mostly resolved those issues and he wants the bankruptcy case dropped.
The AJC said an August 15 court hearing has been scheduled to hear the motion to dismiss the bankruptcy case.
