Football: GHS up one spot, four area teams stay same in rankings

By staff, wire reports
Gainesville moved up one spot, while the other four area teams remained in the same positions in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association Prep Football Poll, released Tuesday.

The Red Elephants (6-1, 5-0 Region 8-AAAAA) blasted Salem 58-8 last week and will travel to take on Clarke Central (5-1, 4-0) on Friday. The Red Elephants moved up thanks to Stephenson's 31-28 loss to No. 2 Tucker last week, which dropped the Jaguars (5-1, 4-1 Region 6-AAAAA) from third to fifth.

Meanwhile, Buford and North Gwinnett each remained at No. 1 in their respective classifications. The Wolves (6-0, 3-0 Region 7-AAA) hammered White County 42-6 last week and will travel to Dawson County (4-2, 2-1) this week.

The Warriors (4-2, 2-1), meanwhile, will play host to Class AAA No. 4 North Hall on Friday. The Trojans (6-0, 3-0) slammed Fannin County 62-7 last week.

Jefferson also remained in the Class AA rankings, staying at 10th after last week's 26-20 overtime defeat of Rabun County. The Dragons (4-2, 2-1 Region 8-AA) will travel to face Oglethorpe County (1-5, 1-2) this week.
