DAWSONVILLE -- Buford did not get the start it wanted, but the Wolves still finished like champs on Friday.
Dawson County battled Buford for every inch over the opening 24 minutes in Dawsonville and trailed just 14-3 at the half.
Then the Wolves scored four third quarter touchdowns -- including three over a 1:52 span -- to stamp their authority on the contest in a 42-10 win.
Joshua Thomas led No. 1 Buford (7-0, 4-0 Region 7-AAA) on the night, rushing 13 times for 119 yards and three touchdowns, while Donte' Gordon also scored twice and Thomas Wilson added a touchdown for the defending Class AAA champs.
Dawson County put up 87 yards passing in the first half and took advantage of three Wolves turnovers to stay close. Buford tossed its first interception of the season, as the Tigers (4-3, 2-2) picked off two Wolves passes.
Buford did not attempt a single pass in the second half, sticking with its dominating ground game to pull away.
The Wolves travel to face Fannin County next week, while Dawson County will travel to White County.
