Chestatee bounces back emphatically, 42-0, awaits playoffs

GAINESVILLE -- Chestatee showed it was not about to let last week's gut-wrenching loss at Monroe Area keep it down on Friday, hammering Madison County 42-0 in Gainesville.

The victory rounded out the regular season for the War Eagles (8-2, 6-1), who are the No. 2 seed in Region 8-AAAA and await Grady -- the No. 3 seed from Region 6-AAAA -- in next week's first round.

Chestatee showed, once again, on Friday its dominant defense, picking off three passes and getting its third shutout of the season.

Meanwhile, Zac Cheshire broke the 1,000 yard rushing mark in the win, while Will Fayson blocked two punts.

"We were very aggressive and wide open from the start," War Eagles coach Stan Luttrell said. "Our seniors did an excellent job of leading us tonight and helping us rebound."

The War Eagles tied their best win total in the victory and will host a state playoff game for the second straight season.

"We're doing some things and showing some consistency now," Luttrell said. "We're doing things the Chestatee way."
