By The Associated Press
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) A metro Atlanta man has been indicted in the slaying of his girlfriend, who authorities say died from being beaten a hammer.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports a Douglas County grand jury indicted 46-year-old Gary Lee Malone on murder charges Friday. District Attorney David McDade says Malone is accused of striking the woman repeatedly in the head with a hammer when she was killed at their Lithia Springs apartment Nov. 2.

It was Malone who called police to the apartment where they found 36-year-old Katrina West dead. Her body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.

Malone was arrested at the scene and remains jailed without bond in Douglas County. It was not known Saturday if he had an attorney.
