TYRONE -- Chestatee's dream season came to screeching halt Friday night against defending Class AAAA state champion Sandy Creek.
The War Eagles were outmanned and outgunned in a 55-7 loss to the Patriots in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs.
Sandy Creek (12-0) jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead after the first quarter and never let up. The Patriots would use a 21-7 second quarter to blow the game open.
Chestatee's only score came just before the half when Tray Bryant capped a 65-yard drive with a touchdown run.
Bryant finished with 38 yards on 17 carries. Zac Cheshire had 44 yards on 23 carries as the Patriots shut down the War Eagles potent ground attack.
Chestatee coach Stan Luttrell said despite how things ended Friday, it was a season to remember for the War Eagles.
"We built momentum off of last year and took another step forward for the program," he said. "The seniors left their mark and set the bar higher for us. We're going to try to continue that and we're going to work hard to do that."
Chestatee, which finished the year at 9-3, set a new mark for wins, was the Region 8-AAAA runner-up, and won its first-ever playoff game last week against Grady.
"Those were all things we set goals for and we did I feel like things are headed in the right direction," Luttrell said.
