CLEVELAND - The White County Fire Department had a active day Thursday fighting several fires.
"Along with two reported brush fires, and a heavy equipment fire, the volunteers responded with a report of two structure fires," White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said.
He said the first structure fire was reported at approximately 4:00 p.m. at 378 Jenny's Cove Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found an outbuilding and about a half acre of woods on fire.
Firefighters from stations 6 and 5 with automatic aide from the city of Cleveland responded to the blaze. No injuries were reported. The cause has not been determined.
The second structure fire was reported at 10:21 p.m. Thursday night in the 1100 block of River Bridge Trail. The first arriving unit reported a cabin fully involved in fire. Firefighters from stations 3 and 7 and mutual aid from the Helen Fire Department, Habersham Fire Department and fire brigade from Lee Arrendale Institute responded.
The American Red Cross responded. Murphy said a state fire investigator was requested to look for the cause. According to Murphy, fire units remained on scene to extinguish hot spots until after 5:00 a.m. Friday.
