Flowery Branch man implicated in Winder drug deal

By B.J. Williams
WINDER - Barrow County authorities have made a second arrest in connection with a drug deal that possibly led to the death of an 18-year-old Winder girl.

Lt. Matt Guthas said that Terry Littleton, 25, of Flowery Branch turned himself in to Barrow County Sheriff's investigators Thursday. Littleton has been charged with criminal attempt to distribute a controlled substance and use of a communication facility in commission of a criminal attempt to distribute a controlled substance.

Both Littleton and Emily Susan Smith, a former teacher at Winder Barrow Middle School, are accused of helping the teen obtain prescription drugs via cell phone the day before the girl died.

Guthas said a toxicology report found high levels of methadone in the girl's body at the time of her death last month, although they have not given a specific cause for her death. That substance was methadone, the same substance Littleton and Smith allegedly arranged for the victim to purchase.

Guthas said the girl's name has not been released at the request of family.
