CORNELIA - A Habersham County man has been jailed after an undercover drug operation earlier this month led to the seizure of $225,000 worth of methamphetamine.

In a press release, Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell said the undercover buy took place on Tuesday, March 12.

The subject of the investigation, David S. Martinez, 20, was arrested at a traffic stop following the completion of the transaction. Martinez lists residences in both Cornelia and Mt. Airy.

Terrell said search warrants were obtained for a residence at 134 Hillcrest Street in Cornelia and 2027 Dicks Hill Parkway in Mt. Airy. In addition to seizing the kilo (2.2 lbs.) of methamphetamine, agents also confiscated several thousand dollars in U.S. currency and five vehicles.

Martinez, who is being held at the Habersham County Jail, has been charged with one count of trafficking methamphetamine.

Special Agents of the Mountain Judicial Circuit N.C.I.S. Team, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (S.L.E.D.) and the National Guard Counterdrug Task Force assisted deputies and K-9 units from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office in the undercover operation.

The investigation remains open, according to Terrell.
