UNDATED - Climatoligists had predicted that Georgia would be completely drought free when the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map was issued Thursday, but there are still two counties that show abonormally dry conditions.
The May 9 map indicated small areas in both Glynn and McIntosh counties in coastal Georgia remain abnormally dry.
The U.S. Drought Monitor issues updated maps each Thursday.
Assistant State Climatologist Pam Knox said over the past decade, Georgia has suffered drought more than it has not.
"In fact, the last drought covered more of the state with severe drought than the previous drought did, but because it was farther south, didn't see as much media coverage as the 2007 to 2009 drought," said Knox.
Knox said the earlier drought impacted the Atlanta and north Georgia area, so there was more attention given to it, since it impacted a larger population.
