CLEVELAND - A White County couple was recognized Monday night for their dedication and community service.

During Monday night's regular monthly meeting of the White County Republican Party, Ray and Odessa Davis were honored for their leadership in raising funds for the expansion of the White County Senior Center and their service to the Republican Party.

During the meeting, White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner presented a proclamation designating the day as "Ray and Odessa Davis Day in White County."

The couple also was recognized for their service by the White County Republican Party, Congressman Tom Graves and Rep. Terry Rogers, who was the featured speaker for the evening.

Ray Davis was brought to tears by the recognition.

Odessa Davis said they had no idea.

"It was definitely a surprise - a big one!" she said. "I appreciate it, I really do. We wanted so much to enlarge the center and have a place for everyone to enjoy".

The couple was the driving force for the community and county commissioners in getting funds for the recently-completed White County Senior Center, located at the corner of Helen Highway and Hulsey Road.
