Tropical Storm Andrea bearing down on Fla. coast

By The Associated Press
MIAMI (AP) The first tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season has gotten a little stronger as it heads toward Florida's western coast and a new tropical storm warning has been issued for a swath of the U.S. East Coast.

Andrea's maximum sustained winds early Thursday increased to near 60 mph (95 kph) and the storm is expected to reach Florida's Big Bend area later in the day before moving across southeastern Georgia.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for a large section of Florida's west coast from Boca Grande to Indian Pass and for the East Coast from Flagler Beach, Fla., all the way to Cape Charles Light in Virginia.

The storm is centered about 220 miles (355 kilometers) west-southwest of Tampa and is moving north-northeast near 13 mph (20 kph).
