CLERMONT - One person was killed in an early morning crash Sunday on Cleveland Highway near Clermont.
The Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened around 3 a.m. as the driver of the vehicle was traveling northbound on Cleveland Highway near Old Cleveland Road. Troopers said it appears the driver was trying to negotiate a curve, traveled off the east shoulder and down an embankment.
Investigators said the vehicle hit a tree, overturned and caught fire. The driver was trapped and died at the scene.
The State Patrol said the victim has been taken to the State Crime Lab for identification.
