GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council this (Thursday) morning heard a resolution requesting a $33,000 sewer line extension that would take in Milton Martin Honda, a seven acre site on Browns Bridge Road.
Utilities Director Kelly Randall said the car dealership wants to get on city sewer and off its existing septic tank system by annexing into Gainesville.
"They have agreed to provide the easements and annex and in exchange for us to run this sewer, which is something we want to do anyway, and then they will provide the plumbing," Randall told Council.
Randall said the annexation would be a plus for the city because it makes adjacent property accessible to sewer service with the easements.
Council also reviewed a $135,000 Public Utilities request resolution to contract with Jacobs Engineering to develop a design and a community outreach program for the proposed new chemical building at the Riverside Treatment plant. Construction cost of the new plant is estimated at $8-million.
"The Riverside plant was built when the lake (Lake Lanier) was built," Randall told council members. "It's had several upgrades through the years but conditions have changed with new requirements and also some of the systems are wearing out."
Randall said plans are to build the new chemical building adjacent to the existing treatment plant, relocating Crepe Myrtle Lane.
