Woman falls from dock, drowns in Lanier

By B.J. Williams
CUMMING - The State Department of Natural Resources has released the name of the 59-year-old woman who drowned after falling from a private dock on Lake Lanier Sunday evening.

The DNR's Melissa Cummings said Monday morning that Marines Rosa Dillon of Hope Road in Cumming lost her balance as she reached for a turtle in the water. The victim's husband, Dan Dillon, told authorities that his wife did not know how to swim. He also told authorities he jumped in to save his wife, even though he also is unable to swim.

Authorities said a neighbor heard both the victim and her husband screaming and called 911. Forsyth County authorities reported both husband and wife were out of the water when emergency crews arrived.

Both were taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where Marines Rosa Dillon died.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Section is currently investigating the death.
