AUGUSTA - Georgia state Rep. Quincy Murphy of Augusta has died.
The Augusta Chronicle reports that the Democratic legislator died Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 60.
The chairman of the Richmond County Democratic Party, Lowell Greenbaum, calls Murphy an "extra-compassionate public servant."
Murphy was born in Atlanta and raised by his grandmother in Edgefield County, S.C.
Murphy served in the General Assembly for 11 years after winning a state House seat in 2002.
Murphy is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Funeral arrangements aren't yet complete.
