COMER - As the Labor Day travel period began, one man was killed in a traffic accident in Madison County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred Saturday morning around 12:45 a.m. on Georgia Highway 98, one mile north of Comer. Investigating troopers said a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling northbound on Highway 98 when it left the roadway on the west shoulder, struck a culvert with its undercarriage and then a tree. The truck then rotated and rolled over before coming to rest on its tires, according to troopers.
The driver of the truck, 67-year-old Elbert Foster of Bowman, was killed in the crash. No one else was in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.
Investigators said Foster was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
