By staff, wire reports
Five area teams made the final regular season rankings of 2014 in the Georgia Sports Writers Association Prep Football Poll, released on Tuesday.

North Gwinnett, Lanier, Buford, Jefferson and Union County each made their respective classification's top 10s, while Mill Creek, West Hall, Rabun County and Commerce each received votes.

Commerce also wrapped the season as the No. 5 team in the Class A Public power rankings index, meaning the Tigers (8-2) should receive a berth in the Class A Public playoffs, which will begin on Nov. 21. (Commerce was not assured of a playoff spot because it did not win the Region 8-A title, but a No. 5 ranking puts the team in good stead for the 16-team bracket.)

North Gwinnett moved up to fourth in Class AAAAAA after finishing the season as Region 7-AAAAAA champ. The Bulldogs (8-2, 6-1 Region 7-AAAAAA) will play host to Central Gwinnett in the first round of the state playoffs on Friday.

Lanier held at No. 6 in Class AAAAA after finishing out the regular season 10-0. The Longhorns also went 9-0 in Region 8-AAAAA to clinch their first region crown. Lanier will play host to Sequoyah in the first round of state.

Buford also closed out a perfect 10-0 campaign and maintained its No. 1 spot in Class AAAA. The Region 8-AAAA champ Wolves will play host to Southeast Whitfield in the first round.

In Class AAA, Jefferson wrapped a 10-0 regular season by staying fourth place. The Region 8-AAA champ Dragons will play host to Franklin County in the first round.

Union County also earned a Class AA spot of ninth after finishing 9-1, while Rabun County (8-2), which won the Region 8-AA title just in front of the Panthers received votes. Union County will play host to Model in the first round, the Wildcats will entertain Chattooga.

Georgia Sports Writers Association Prep Football Poll, Nov. 11
Included in list are team name, ranking, record, total points and last week's ranking

Class AAAAAA
1.
