FLOWERY BRANCH - The Hall County School System is offering a $500 reward to anyone who can lead them to the person or persons who left a suspicious letter with a powdery material in a teacher workroom at Flowery Branch High School Tuesday morning.

The letter-size paper was folded and enclosed in plastic packaging and was left on a table, according to School System spokesman Gordon Higgins. It was addressed to FBHS Principal Dr. Jason Carter.

Higgins said a teacher saw the paper first and handed it to Carter, noting that a small amount of powder spilled from it then.

Carter then went to his office and opened the plastic packaging.

"He noticed more of this powdery substance - this white, powdery substance - and not knowing what the nature or origin of it was, he called Hall County EMS," said Higgins.

Emergency responders secured the office area and the material when they arrived at the school.

Higgins said while they still don't know what the powder is, the emergency crews determined it was not a biological hazard.

"Everything was confined to the main office," said Higgins. "It only directly impacted three people in terms of touching the material. No students at all were involved in this entire episode."

Higgins said the office was closed for about three hours while it was disinfected as a precaution.

Higgins said all parents were notified of the emergency via the school district's messaging system.
