GOP senators differ on Obama attorney general pick

By The Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republicans are showing divisions over President Barack Obama's pick for attorney general. Some cite the president's executive actions on immigration as reason for pause, but others are open to the selection of Loretta Lynch.

Lynch began visiting senators this week. She is a New York federal prosecutor, and the Senate is expected to vote on her nomination next year, when Republicans will run the chamber.

One Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham says Lynch will have to answer questions about Obama's recent orders saving millions of people from deportation. But he says the country needs an attorney general.

Another Republican on that panel, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, says Obama's immigration orders were illegal and the next attorney general should not defend them.
