LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County police are investigating an apparent murder that occurred Saturday in Auburn.<br />

According to Sgt. Brian Doan, officers arrived at a residence in the 1700 block of Flowery Branch Road near Braselton Highway in response to a 911 call in which a passerby had reported an unidentified male lying in the driveway.<br />

Officers at the scene discovered the body of a deceased male, who was later identified as 45-year-old Brian Whitfield. <br />
<br />
Doan said that although the investigation is in its early stages, it is believed that Whitfield died as a result of apparent gunshot wounds, and the incident is consequently being treated as a homicide case.<br />
<br />
No more information has been made available at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.<br />
