WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgia made a little bit of improvement in the nationwide unemployment rankings, which were released by the US Labor Department Friday.

After sitting in last place for the last couple of months, Georgia's jobless rate is now tied for the third lowest in the nation. California also has a 7.2 percent unemployment rate.

Gov. Nathan Deal, in the waning days of his re-election bid, was critical of the data showing Georgia with the highest unemployment rate, wondering if the numbers were politically skewed to reflect badly on Republican-dominated states. Deal, a Republican, was re-elected Nov. 4, defeating Democratic and Libertarian challengers.

Only Mississippi and Washington, D.C. had jobless rates higher than Georgia's in November.
