Feds launch tip line for prescription drug abuse

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) - Federal authorities are launching a prescription drug abuse tip line in Georgia to allow pharmacy industry professionals and members of the public to make anonymous reports.

The Drug Enforcement Administration on Thursday announced the launch of the statewide tip line. It will allow tipsters to anonymously call or text information about prescription drug abuse.

Harry Sommers, special agent in charge of the DEA's Atlanta field office, says people who work in the pharmacy and drug industry are expected to be the main users of the tip line.

Authorities say the number of prescription drug deaths in Georgia over the last three years exceeded the number of deaths from all other illegally used drugs combined.

Tipsters can text ``PILLTIP'' and their tip to TIP411 or call 404-893-7324.
