BRISTOL, TN - Rain is good for the flowers. It's great for farmers.
For racing, not so much.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway remains under a red flag for rain. After the start was delayed by some two hours due to rain, drivers were able to complete 124 of the 500 laps before the rains returned.
A race has to reach halfway before it can be called official.
At the red flag, Matt Kenseth held the lead. Jamie McMurray is second, with Brad Keselowski third, Kurt Busch in fourth and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in fifth.
Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne and Denny Hamlin rounds out the top 10.
Track drying efforts are underway. Crews twice had the track ready to race, with drivers even being called to their cars at one point, only to have the persistent precipitation return, further delaying the restart.
WDUN has live coverage of the Food City 500 on 102.9 FM and 550 AM. Racing is expected to resume shortly after 7 pm.
