YELLOWSTONE - The body of a missing Demorest man was discovered Friday in Yellowstone National Park, four days after the man disappeared in an apparent tubing accident.
According to a report posted by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, 22-year-old Darien Latty, who worked as a summertime concession worker in the park, was last seen Monday evening floating down the Lamar River alongside two of his coworkers. While the two unnamed men were able to reach the shore safely, witnesses reported that Latty was swept downstream by the rushing waters.
Following an extended search that covered both ground and air, the 2010 Habersham Central High School graduate's body was discovered in an undisclosed location sometime Friday.
A relative of the victim told the AJC that Latty, who had worked in the park since early this year, was planning to re-enroll in college once his summertime duties had come to an end.
The Darien Latty Memorial Fund has been set up through Fidelity Bank to provide assistance to the victim's family.
