LAWRENCEVILLE - An Oakwood woman has been charged with the murder of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found in a closed south Hall park last fall.

Gwinnett County police said in a press statement 27-year-old Amy Leann McGarity faces charges in connection with the death of 20-year-old Kayla Jeanne Weil, also known as Kayla Nelson. The victim's body was found wrapped in a blanket in a bathroom at Chestnut Ridge Park.

Authorities believe Weil was killed at a house on Cloud Street in Buford in July of 2013, a house where McGarity was living. The body was then transported to the park and remained undiscovered until October 2013.

McGarity faces charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, False Imprisonment and Concealing the Death of Another Person, according to police. McGarity was charged while she was incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Jail on unrelated charges.
Gwinnett police have not released a possible motive in the murder, citing the ongoing investigation.
