White County moves ahead on automatic aid with Habersham

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio
CLEVELAND - White County Commissioners have agreed in principle for an updated automatic aid agreement for fire services with Habersham County.

During a work session Monday, commissioners agreed to place the item on the consent agenda for the regular meeting next week.

The action followed a report from White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, who told commissioners this is an update of an agreement the two counties made back in the late 1980s or early '90s.

"This is another chance and opportunity to provide better fire protection for both communities," Murphy said.

The agreement details what areas each county will help provide protection for in the other county. Murphy also said it is possible some areas could see savings on their insurance premium with this agreement.

Talks also are underway with Hall County on automatic aid service for areas off Ransom Free Road that are located in White County.
