GAINESVILLE - Authorities are reaching out to the public for help identifying a man who attempted to break into a hearse parked in the outdoor carport of a Gainesville funeral home.<br />

The break-in occurred at Ward's Funeral Home during the early morning hours of New Year's Day, according to a video posted on social media by the Gainesville Police Department.<br />
<br />
The video, which contains surveillance footage with narration by a Gainesville detective, shows a white male, driving what appears to be a Honda van, pulling into the funeral home's carport and using some sort of tool to shatter the rear window of a hearse.<br />
<br />
The man then unsuccessfully attempted to open the rear door of the vehicle before getting back in his vehicle and leaving the scene.<br />
