AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) Georgia's university system chancellor says the president of Georgia Regents University has indicated his intention to resign.
Chancellor Hank Huckaby tells The Augusta Chronicle that GRU President Ricardo Azziz has informed his staff of his intentions. Huckaby said the board of regents is meeting Thursday afternoon to discuss the matter.

Asked whether Azziz would resign Thursday, Huckaby said Thursday that he understands "there is a letter to that effect in my office right now." He added that Azziz made the decision voluntarily.

Huckaby said a search for a new leader will begin immediately, with a goal of having someone in place by July.
Huckaby added the university's name, which had been a source of passionate debate in Augusta, will not change.
