GAINESVILLE — Hall County Fire Services is almost finished tallying all the calls emergency crews worked on Sunday, according to Deputy Fire Chief Chad Black.
While there were routine emergency calls, most of the calls were weather-related.
Black said the bulk of the weather calls - 64 in all - came in between midnight and 6 p.m. Sunday. Several of those calls kept crews on the scene for extended periods of time.
For example, power lines and trees came down on Highway 52 at Clarks Bridge Road and Hall County Fire Services remained on the scene for four and one-half hours while power company officials secured the scene. A similar scenario unfolded at Hulsey Road and Hulsey Drive when trees and power lines fell. It took eight hours for power company officials to clear that scene.
Several homes sustained damage when trees fell on top or through them. Those structures were located on Lotheridge Road, Miller Place, Bucks Crossing, Flowery Way and Education Way, according to Black.
Black also reported a couple of transformer fires that happened between midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday - one on East Hall Road and the other on Joe Chandler Road.
Black said there were no injuries in the county as the result of weather-related problems.
He said the assessment of damage is ongoing.
