DAHLONEGA — Fannin County's offense stormed out of the gates and helped the Rebels pull out a 41-35 win over Lumpkin County on Friday in Dahlonega.
Fannin County (3-3, 1-1 Region 7-AAA) put up 34 points in the first half -- largely behind the arm of quarterback Brad Davis, who passed for 416 yards before the interval. Davis completed scoring passes to three different receivers in the first half -- Jacob Reece, Christian Resendiz and Cooper Earls all catching touchdown passes.
Lumpkin County battled to get back into the contest, Austin Pierce catching a touchdown pass from Chandler Woodham and Zach Matthews returning a kickoff 87 yards for a score as the Indians (2-5, 0-3) pulled within 34-14 at the half. Lumpkin then scored 14 unanswered points -- a Matthews run and a blocked punt for a score -- in the third quarter to pull within 34-28.
But Fannin responded through a 39-yard touchdown run from Jack Roper for a 41-28 advantage that Lumpkin could not overhaul despite another late touchdown.
Fannin County will play host to Dawson County next week.
Lumpkin County will travel to Banks County next week.
