MLK's sister-in-law punched in face in attempted carjacking

By The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) The sister-in-law of Martin Luther King Jr. was punched in the face during an attempted carjacking outside her retirement home in southwest Atlanta.

Local news media report that 83-year-old Naomi King was attacked Friday when she didn't comply with a robber's demand for her keys after she pulled up to the gate at her retirement community. Police say the male came from a wooded area nearby.

Naomi King is the widow of the Rev. A.D. King, the younger brother of Martin Luther King Jr.

Atlanta police officer Ralph Woolfolk says authorities are investigating the incident.

Her neighbors say attacks are becoming common there.
