By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

ATLANTA - The Georgia Lottery Corporation Friday reported record profits for education for the first quarter of fiscal year 2016.  Profits transferred to the State Treasury's Lottery for Education Account will amount to $253.9 million, surpassing last year's first quarter total by more than $25.9 million.

The Georgia Lottery’s first quarter profits bring the total raised for educational programs in the state of Georgia to more than $16.7 billion since the lottery’s inception in 1993.

“Our fiscal year is off to a strong start, which is great news for the many students and families who benefit from the HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs,” said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Debbie D. Alford. “It is rewarding to know that Georgians support our products and lottery-funded educational programs.”

The first quarter of the Georgia Lottery’s fiscal year spanned from July 1, 2015, to Sept. 30, 2015. FY16 first quarter profits also include funds generated from coin operated amusement machines (COAMs) in Georgia.
