UPDATE: Murrayville house fire causes estimated $150K in damage

By Ken Stanford

MURRAYVILLE - Damages from a fire at a house in the Murrayville area have been placed at around $150,000, according to Hall County Deputy Fire Chief Chad Black.

The call came in around 10:00 Monday night.

"Caller advised he had a fire in his chimney when he notified the 9-1-1 center and was trying to get his elderly parents out of residence," Black said, adding that everyone was out of the house upon arrival of the first firefighters, who found "heavy fire involvement" in the attic area of the 3,500-square-foot house.

"Due to amount of fire, it took firefighters over an hour to bring the fire completely under control.  (There was) heavy fire damage to the attic and water damage throughout the structure with damages estimated at $150,000."

Black said investigators will return Tuesday to continue their work and try to determine the cause of the fire.  The house is located on Hubert Stephens Road near Wade Whelchel Road. There were no injuries.
