N. Ga. communities plan to honor veterans with Wednesday ceremonies

UNDATED — Communities across the region are gearing up to celebrate Veterans Day on November 11, which falls on Wednesday of this upcoming week. Veterans will be honored on town squares, at special concerts and even in area schools. The following list represents some of the events in the AccessWDUN coverage area. If you know of an event that's not on the list, please let us know. Unless otherwise noted, all events listed below will beheld on Wednesday.

GAINESVILLE'S ROCK CREEK PARK:

Gainesville and Hall County veterans will be honored in an annual ceremony from 9-10 a.m. at Rock Creek Veterans Park located directly across the road from the main branch of the Hall County Library.

LULA VETERANS DAY CEREMONY:

The annual ceremony in downtown Lula is held at the town's Veterans Park. The keynote speaker for the 2015 event is Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch. The event begins at 10 a.m.

CITY OF CUMMING COMMEMORATION:

Veterans and active duty military will be honored during the City of Cumming’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. at the City’s Veterans War Memorial, 301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. next door to the Cumming Police Department. The event’s keynote address will be presented by retired U.S. Army Col. Ken Jackson. 

GWINNETT COUNTY ANNUAL VETERANS DAY CEREMONY:

In Lawrenceville, the yearly ceremony at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial will focus on World War I this year. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

WHITE COUNTY GROUPS HOST TWO EVENTS FOR VETERANS DAY:

~The White County Board of Commissioners, American Legion Post #16 and the White County Honor Guard will host a commemoration on November 11  at Freedom Park  at 11 a.m.  In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, more than 250 White County Veterans who served in the United States Military during the Vietnam War will be presented with Certificates of Honor from the Office of Governor Nathan Deal.

~The Northeast Georgia Veterans Society is sponsoring a Veterans Day event at Babyland Conference Center in Cleveland on November 11 at 6:30 pm.  The event will include military ceremonies by the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at White County High School. The guest speaker will be Ninth District Congressman Doug Collins.  State Senator Steve Gooch will present State of Georgia “ Vietnam Veterans Certificates of Honor”  to qualified Vietnam veterans who have applied for the certificates. Veterans Service Commissioner Mike Roby will present lapel pins to the Vietnam vets.  The cost for the dinner is $15.00.  There are two ways to purchase tickets - online at www.ngvs.club or by mail at NGVS, 192 Spencer Road, Cleveland, Ga. 30528. AMERICAN LEGION'S 2015 VETERANS DAY:

The American Legion Paul E. Bolding Post 7 will host their annual Veterans Day event at Lakewood Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 11 at 11 a.m.
