Police: 17-year-old girl stabbed to death by fellow teenager

ACWORTH, Ga. (AP) Police say a 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death by a fellow teenager in suburban Atlanta over the weekend.

Cobb County police Officer Alicia Chilton says 18-year-old Olivia Smith of Canton has been charged with felony murder in the death of Abbey Hebert of Acworth. Hebert was found dead Saturday morning in the front yard of a home in Cobb County.

Chilton says Smith was arrested near the body of Hebert. Some news outlets report Smith and Chilton were step-cousins.

Smith is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond. It's not clear whether Smith has an attorney.

Chilton says the incident remains under investigation.

Local news media reports that about a dozen students gathered Saturday night for a vigil in Hebert's memory at Allatoona High School.
